PVP CHANGES
Some of the criticisms since the release of Edge of Fate has been that players have felt not enough attention has been given to the PVP sandbox- And while this isn't the case, we totally understand where these concerns are coming from. While our PVP team is working on underlying issues in the gamemodes such as hitreg, banning cheaters and keeping Trials positive, they've not had much time to really put the TLC needed into the sandbox.
To rectify this, we're going to go even harder into our new system and new vision. A common complaint is that the new Armor system doesn't feel as integrated with the rest of the PVP experience as we'd like, so to try and jucie the fun up, we're going to be tripling the effects of all Armor stat bonuses while in the Crucible. As for PVE, don't worry Guardians, as we have more to say about stats in Strikes and the Portal later.
For now, here's an overview of planned changes for PVP:
-
As mentioned above- triple current effects of all new Armor 3.0 Stat effects
-
Weapon Stat changes
-
Higher Weapon Stat increases Weapon performance- You will start with extra ammo (extra Special Ammo on spawn, and overflowing Primary Ammo mags).
-
Higher Weapon Stat significantly decreases Weapon bloom.
-
Weapon bloom will be added to all Weapons.
-
Lower Weapon Stat gives you decreased Ammo on spawn.
-
Lower Weapon Stat can cause a chance for your guns to jam.
-
-
Airborne Effectiveness changes
-
We're tweaking how Airborne Effectiveness functions- Airborne players are now easier to combat, but still difficult to counter if you play on the ground. In the June* Update, we will be making changes to increase bullet magnetism when aiming at an airborne opponent.
-
Chance for bullets to track to a floating opponent if missed is currently 0%. After the Update, it will be 16% at base when shooting within 3 meters of the opponent, and increases up to 75.5% at 200 Weapons stat.
-
-
Class Abilities now have a 70% slower recharge rate in all Crucible modes except Hardware.
-
Trials Labs is back!
-
Trials will be rotating between Eruption and Fortress weekly. We've seen admittedly low engagement in Trials since Edge of Fate, so we're hoping shaking things up and adding some new Adept Weapons into the mix will liven the playlist up for all of Saint's Favorite Guardians.
-
Removing Saint-15 voice lines- As a competitive gamemode, we've long heard feedback that the voice lines make it difficult to focus and break up the tension. To try and remedy this, Saint will be gone for the duration of Trials Labs. You can still grab your Passage weekly from Osiris on Neomuna.
-
-
Map team is jammin'!
-
We're pleased to announce a new Trials exclusive map dropping in our upcoming June* update! This map is featuring a new environmental mechanic we've been playtesting called interactable environment. We're experimenting with a map built around doors that open and close depending on your enemy and teammates' position. You'll need at least 2 players near a door to open it, meaning either play as a team or face the enemy head on together! We've heard a lot about players "flanking" in Trials and this is our attempt to minimise this playstyle as it can be difficult for players with smaller monitors and give widescreen players an unfair advantage. Unfortunately, old-gen consoles are unable to run this new mechanic, so PS4 and Xbox One players will have static doors that are permanently open. (This is client-side.)
-
-
The elephant in the room - SBMM in Trials
-
We've had a lot of heated debate over the idea of skill based matchmaking in PVP playlists for years now, so after a lot of testing we've arrived at a possible solution to this issue. Many less experienced players wish they could play against others at a similar skill level, while many experienced players get frustrated at their "sweaty" games. To combat this, we are adding Passion based SBMM to Trials.
-
Passion is a new Armor stat to replace Health in a future update. The higher Passion you have, the less SBMM will affect your matchmaking experience. With this system, everyone is able to build into the matchmaking they want, and allow more fun games for all. Passion also will affect loot gained from Trials cards and Saint-15 reputation gains.
-
We're soft launching this new SBMM system with our June* Major Update, although the Passion stat will not be implemented until a later date (TBD).
-
Weapon and Armor changes
-
Primary Ammo Pulse and Scout Rifles have seen a massive decrease in usage since Renegades.
-
To try and combat this, all Pulse and Scout Rifles will gain +30% bullet magnetism on airborne targets and increased magazine size.
-
We also aren't quite happy with the usage rates of Pulses across the board, so we're adjusting the damage dealt by all Pulse archetypes to match Redrix' Estoc's TTK.
-
We've seen especially declining usage of Heavy Burst Pulses, so we're increasing their headshot damage by 50% as well as the previously mentioned buffs.
-
-
Decreasing the firerate of all hand cannons by 15%.
-
Adding a 0.4 second trigger delay to The Last Word.
-
Since the usage rate of Radiant Dance Machines has decreased significantly since their nerf, we're reverting it.
-
We are also reverting Young Ahamkara's Spine back to its Lightfall launch potency.
-
We've seen Well of Radiance having a 70% pick rate for Warlocks in some Trials weekends, so to combat this we are nerfing it slightly. It no longer applies restoration, only providing an overshield unless the caster's Super stat is above 150.
-
We're giving Geomag Stabilisers back the ability to charge Super by sprinting, and they can now charge from 0%, rather than only the last section of the Super bar. We are also doubling the Super Energy gained when Super stat is above 100.
-
Due to an issue with Subclass swaps, all Titan Subclasses are currently disabled in PVP except for Behemoth and Sentinel.
-
Ward of Dawn has been a consistent pain point in the Crucible for years, so we've devised some nerfs that should barely change the experience for Titan players, but make the playing field feel a little more even for their opponents.
-
The Bubble can now be shot through by enemy players, but the Titan has 35% Damage Resistance.
-
The Bubble now also has 1/3 as much health as previously.
-
If the Bubble is punched, it pops, dealing AOE damage and applies Volatile to all players nearby.
-
Security & Accessibility: "The Input Integrity Initiative"
We’ve had many internal discussions regarding third-party hardware like XIM and Cronus. Our goal has always been to create a level playing field, but our data has revealed a surprising trend: many players using these devices claim they are doing so to manage "micro-tremors" and "tactile feedback inconsistencies."
New Input Policy: "Simulated Stability"
Instead of banning these devices, we are leaning into their "benefits" for the entire community. To accommodate players with "hand-shaking concerns," we have integrated Native Aim-Smoothing into the base game for all controller users.
The "Tremor-Guard" Stat
We are adding a new hidden stat to all Armor called Stability Control. The Mechanic: If your Stability Control stat is low, your reticle will now physically vibrate and "jitter" to simulate natural human hand tremors.
Anti-Cheat Update
"Fair Play" Tax: Players detected using a XIM will no longer be banned. Instead, they will be given a unique Title called "Tremor-Master" and their damage in PvP will be increased by 5% to "compensate for their technical struggles."
PVE SANDBOX CHANGES
PVE has been in an interesting place since Edge of Fate took the sandbox we all know and love and turned it into something a little bit shinier and a little bit newer. While most reception to our stat changes and sandbox changes have generally been positive, we're also aware of certain pain points that need addressing. Buckle up, because this one's a doozy:
-
We are completely removing the new Armor 3.0 Stats system from PVE. It will still function in PVP. All armor will have no stats in PVE until we revise a new system in a future update.
-
We will also be removing all stat based mods, including mods such as Grenade Font, Super Font, Enhanced Athletics, Innervation, Ashes to Assets etc.
-
-
Adding some old favorites back into the Portal Loot Pool:
-
Ghost Primus
-
Inaugural Address
-
Ether Doctor
-
No Turning Back
-
Arsenic Bite-4B
-
Kuva Nukor
-
Rapacious Appetite
-
Fugue-55
-
Aforementioned Attitude
-
These revived weapons will not initially be compatible with the Tiered Loot System and will drop as they did when they were first obtainable.
-
-
-
Increased Mint Retrograde's reserves by 17.
-
Decreased the cooldown on Cadmus Ridge Lancecap's ability by 0.2 seconds when inside an Empowering Rift.
-
This is in order to encourage teamplay more, as part of a new initiative we call Better Together.
-
-
Gutshot Straight Rework
-
We've seen this perk barely used in PVE despite initially being designed as a PVE perk. To counter this, we are changing the perk to increase damage dealt incrementally up to 300% when hitting body shots on a target.
-
-
New Bow Archetype: Full-Auto Frame
-
Bows with this Archetype load multiple arrows at once, and are only needed to be drawn once before firing continuously until the bowmag is empty.
-
We're introducing 2 new Bows with this archetype in our June* Update: Here's a sneak peek!

-
Prismatic changes
-
Due to analytics showing extreme over use in Raid and Dungeon encounters, Golden Gun is being replaced by Blade Barrage on Prismatic Hunter.
-
Nova Bomb is being replaced by Nova Warp.
-
Glacial Quake is being replaced by Winter's Wrath.
-
Hellion is being replaced by Touch of Flame.
-
Drengr's Lash is being replaced by Into the Fray.
-
Threaded Spectre is being replaced by a third Strand Grapple charge.
-
-
To further play into class identity, the extra speed given by the Eager Edge perk is increased by 15% for Hunters and decreased by 20% for Warlocks and Titans.
VENDOR AND ECONOMY REVAMP
The Vendor system has fallen drastically behind in Year of Prophecy so we're overhauling the whole thing. Many players complained about the removal of Legendary Shards, and we've also seen a lot of people wishing for a Destiny 2 Classic version. While we can't promise anything about a new Destiny 2 game version, we wanted to channel that energy into returning some old fan favorite systems into Year 12 of Destiny 2.
Returning currencies:
-
Legendary Shards
-
Unstable Cores
-
Gunsmith Materials
-
Resonant Alloys
-

Aside from these economy changes, we're making some major QOL improvements to the vendor experience. Many players complain about long loading times while going to fetch a Failsafe Bounty, or having to trek across the Dreaming City to talk to Petra Venj. So in Year 12, all Vendors will be removed from Patrol spaces and their interaction screens will be moved within the Portal- That way, Devrim is just a click away, wherever you may be. (Sorry Spawn to Devrim fans!)

BRAND NEW PVP TEAM
We're very happy to announce that due to the completion and release of Marathon, we're now able to give the Marathon team a well deserved break for a while! Well, that is except for the THREE Marathon PVP devs who are moving over to Destiny 2 to help develop new content for the Crucible! We're very excited to have more than doubled the hands on deck for the Crucible, meaning new gamemodes and a new map are finally on the horizon! If Marathon hits 2 million purchases, we'll consider sending over another dev over to the Crucible mines!
HARDWARE UPDATES
We have some planned performance improvements in the June* Update. Currently, Destiny 2 caps out at using 99% of system resources. We wanted to push the dial a little so we're defaulting it to use all 100%. This should see increased FPS and improved anti-aliasing for all players. With this change, we are also removing the lowest graphic settings preset.
CROSSOVER TIME!
We've been absolutely blown away by the positive reception to Marathon, so it only seemed natural to celebrate our new friends on Tau Ceti's building momentum with a crossover to end all crossovers! Meaning- We will be merging Marathon itself with Destiny 2 by adding a purchasable Marathon Key Add-On which will allow you to queue straight into Marathon raids via the Portal, and send loot over from Destiny into Marathon and vice versa. Loot obtained in Marathon will be Tier 6 on transfer to Destiny 2. Cryo Archive and Trials of Osiris will be held on alternating weeks.
AND... ANOTHER COMMUNITY EVENT
To celebrate this merging of worlds, we're happy to announce another community event- If Marathon reaches 3 million total purchases, everyone who purchased Marathon will earn this cool Cryo Ascended emblem:

COMMUNITY FOCUS – MR. GAMIN' COUNSELOR
Our focus this week is a hype man who streams Destiny in front of a lively crowd. He’s all about positive vibes and creating a great atmosphere for his community. He’s also been known to run over dogs.
Please meet Mr Gamin' Counselor.
Alright let’s get into it. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what first got you into gaming.
MGC: The dog wasn't secured and people don't just shoot dogs immediately i bet this was an on going issue.
And where can we find your hype and vibes on the internet?
MGC: I have no empathy for bad dog owners, i've ran over a few dogs that darted out in the middle of the highway, secure your dog or don't be an owner.
Let’s go back. When did you first start becoming active in the community? What was your motivation to get more involved?
MGC: Oh i can say whatever i want after 11 years of playing the game. Btw, The emblem was used to fluff the account to sell. Which i ended up with over 1k for the situation. Dont worry next time i'll ask bungie for insider information or have them hop into my raid team and help out.
What has been your favorite subclass and weapons to use while vibing?
MGC: Well don't worry with how bungie is treating destiny 2 right now, archie will be following along shortly. Sony might take the old dog out back and finish em off.
Fine choices. Tell us about your channel, what kind of content can we find there.
MGC: We NEED to Talk - The UNHINGED & Vile Behavior of Parts of the Destiny Community
*BAD NEWS
Unfortunately, due to time constraints we regret to announce that we're going to have to push our June* Update back to October. It will still, however, be known as the June Update as that's the identity we've created and it's relevant to the content of the update. How? You'll just have to wait and see... In October!
